Body of Potential Futures, 2018

17 x 22 in, white charcoal on matte paper

This self-portrait is a meditation about my body in tangent with my family’s history of breast cancer. I stare, confrontational and tired. I am caught in a moment of tender remembrance of the women who raised me. I am scared of my young body when I should view it as vivacious. My body’s redness contrasts with the green-lit background while the text is written as an overlay. The result is a reflection on vestigial bodies and loss.
